Opening its doors in 1990, ABC Daycare was founded on the idea that children learn best through play and exploration. We know that in the first five years, children learn and absorb more than they will for the rest of their lives. This is also the time when our capacity for learning social skills is at its largest. Children are inspired daily to ask questions and seek the answers. Failures are celebrated as an important part of the learning process. Furthermore, they teach us to be resilient which is a necessary life skill.
Our center strives to be the village that families deserve. Children may begin with us in our infant program and continue their early childhood experiences through pre-kindergarten. We also offer programs for elementary children--before and after school, days off, as well as a summer camp.
We know that the key to our success is our teaching team. Each of our classrooms are led by highly qualified and trained lead teachers who are supported by passionate associates. These teams work together to facilitate inspiring, play-based activities which support children's cognitive, social, and emotional development.
Children's educational experiences ought to reflect who they are as individuals. Diverse experiences ought to be provided which support their unique learning styles and interests. They ought to have daily experiences which support their healthy development, in a warm and stimulating environment.
As a former special education teacher, Kay recognized the importance of quality early childhood experiences. As a mom, nothing in the community met her expectations--so she created it! ABC Daycare opened its doors in 1990. Twenty years later Kay's daughter joined the program and is continuing her mother's legacy of providing high quality experiences for young families.
Families are encouraged to drop off no later than 9:00 AM. This allows the children to experience the full benefits of their classrooms.
Nutritious snacks are a part of both the morning and afternoon routine. In accordance with State of Michigan licensing requirements, morning and afternoon snacks meet the requirements.
Firsthand experiences are an important way for young children to learn more about their world. Field trips will be planned throughout the year to provide a variety of out of school experiences.
We are proud to be a part of the 3% of centers nationwide who are accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Open communication amongst the teaching team and families is essential. Working in partnership can help everyone to accomplish mutual understanding, and ultimately greater consistency for the children.
Outdoor activities are an integral part of the program, providing children with the opportunity to develop large motor skills and an awareness of their world.
The center directors are responsible for daily operations. Specifically, this includes compliance with licensing and NAEYC standards, supervision of enrollment, collection of tuition, annual teacher evaluations, informing families of events, hiring and training, monitoring and developing annual budget, maintenance of building, and organizing auxiliary programs. The directors are always available to discuss concerns regarding the philosophy and policies of the center, and always to help negotiate any challenges.
Other administrative staff coordinate the day-to-day communication within the center and are available to assist the families and teachers in various aspects of the program.
Each class is staffed with at least one head teacher, who is supported by associate teachers. These individuals are responsible for planning and implementing play-based lesson plans, which cover the academic areas while emphasizing the students’ social and emotional development. They are also accountable for daily communication with families, supervision of associate teachers, and daily assessment of children.
These members are responsible for assisting the head teachers in the development of instructional methods and materials, implementing lesson plans, evaluating children, and documenting their development.
Comprehensive background checks are required for all staff and support staff. These checks include:
Ongoing professional development opportunities occur throughout the year, and each staff member is required to engage in at least 24 hours of these opportunities. All staff are trained in the following topics:
Play provides the foundation for academic learning. It is the preparation children need before they learn highly abstract symbols such as letters and numbers. Play enables us to achieve the key goals of our curriculum. Play is the work of young children.
The most important goal of our approach is to help children become enthusiastic learners. This means encouraging them to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and think in their own unique ways. Our goal is to help them become independent, self-confident, and inquisitive learners. We are teaching them how to learn, not just in a school environment, but all throughout their lives. We are encouraging them to learn at their own pace and in ways that are best for them. We are helping them to learn healthy habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves, which will make a difference throughout their lives.
The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select play materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give children a solid foundation for future success.
Help children feel comfortable in school, trust new environments, make friends, and feel a part of a community
Help children experience pride and self-confidence, develop independence and self-control, and have positive attitudes
Help children become confident learners by encouraging them to try out ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.
Help children increase their large and small muscle skills and feel confident in what their bodies can do.
ABC Daycare & Learning Center is proud to be a part of the three percent of centers nationwide who are accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Early childhood programs accredited by NAEYC have voluntarily undergone a comprehensive process of internal self-study and improvement. Each NAEYC-accredited program must meet all ten of the Early Childhood Program Standards. These standards are based on the latest research on the education and development of young children.
Tuition is billed every Monday, for that week; all accounts not at a zero balance by Friday will be assessed a late payment fee. If your balance becomes thirty days past due, then ABC Daycare can suspend care until it is paid in full.
